Julian Assange Will Be Immediately Handed Over To UK Glenn Greenwald reported that the president of Ecuador is about to, if not already, has finalized an agreement handing over Assange to the UK officials. The ejection of Assange from the embassy can be in the coming weeks. Greenwald suggested that “it appears highly likely that Assange will continue to be imprisoned by British authorities… The only known criminal proceeding Assange currently faces is a pending 2012 arrest warrant for “failure to surrender”” The charge has a prison time of 3 months, which may be count as being served if the officials decide to do so. As in 2010 Assange was imprisoned for 10 days and spent 550 days under house arrest. It is although argued that, officials might argue that “failure to surrender” was so malicious that the above sentenced in fact were not served and thus further two years of sentence may be required. When in office Barack Obama wanted to prosecute Assange for publishing classified information but at the same would have to prosecute media outlets who also published the documents. Would the Trump administration do any different? Whoever knowingly and willfully communicates … or otherwise makes available to an unauthorized person, or publishes … any classified information … obtained by the processes of communication intelligence from the communications of any foreign government … shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both. “Assange would, of course, resist any such extradition on the ground that publishing documents is not a cognizable crime and that the U.S is seeking his extradition for political charges that, by treaty, cannot serve as the basis for extradition.
