Super 15 Rugby
I’ve been watching the Hurricanes rip through the Super 15 since round five, but I initially heard about this year’s tremendous Hurricane team on NewsTalk ZB’s popular radio sports talk show Veitch on Sport. They were versing my then favourite team The Blues that weekend in Palmerston North. As an Aucklander, I felt as though I had to support Blues. Oh how I was mistaken. Because after watching that 80 minutes match, I had decided that The Wellington Hurricanes was my favourite team. I even mentioned to my family that I felt strongly that The ‘Canes’ will lift the trophy in the final. They were going to make it to the finals. So naturally every week since then, I have been watching them play.
I must admit though, my Facebook friends are probably fed up of my status updates every match( Before, Half-time and Full-time.) Hurricanes have won all but one match this year, tearing through all the teams in competition accumulating 66 points to take the number one sport on the 2015 points table. There is no other two teams that are more deserving of being in the finals then Hurricanes and Highlanders.
In addition, to me this year the standout player has been the side stepping, tackle breaking and talented Fullback Nehe Milner-Skudder. The way he plays is as though he is having fun as well as is being serious enough not to lose the ball on the field. When the All Blacks announced their 40 men squad, the first name I searched for was his as I felt no one else was more worthy to represent the country. Furthermore, Waisake Naholo, Lima Sopoaga, Ardie Savea and James Marshall has also stood out for me.
Well, I hope the match tonight will be a nail-biter with the Highlanders coming close to victory but getting out classed by The Canes. Lets go Hurricanes!
